What is WAVR?

WAVR is a free audio converter that runs entirely in your web browser. Your files are decoded, processed and re-encoded on your own device, so nothing is uploaded to a server. It reads MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, M4A, AAC, OPUS, WEBM and AIFF, and exports MP3, WAV, AIFF, FLAC, M4A and OGG. It converts whole batches at once, can peak-normalize and trim silence, and needs no account. WAVR sets no file-size limit. Each file in the queue can also be opened in the Edit & process panel to trim, cut, fade, split at silence, view a spectrogram or measure loudness.

How it works

  1. Drop your filesDrag in one track or a whole folder. WAVR reads each file and shows its length, sample rate and tags.
  2. Pick a formatChoose MP3, WAV, AIFF, FLAC, M4A or OGG, then set bitrate or bit depth, sample rate and channels.
  3. Convert and downloadEverything runs on your device. Download each file, or grab them all at once as a single ZIP.

Why local conversion is safer

Most online converters upload your file to their server, convert it there and send it back. Your unreleased mix, voice memo or interview sits on someone else's computer, and you can't see what happens to it.

WAVR skips that step. The conversion happens in your browser tab, so the audio never travels over the network. It's also faster: there's no upload or download queue, and big files don't time out.

Edit & analyze

Click the sliders icon next to any file in the queue to open the Edit & process panel. It loads only when you open it, so converting stays fast.

  • Waveform editor: zoom, a hover magnifier, trim, cut, fades with four curve shapes, crossfades between files, and unlimited undo.
  • Split at silence: turn a long recording into separate files wherever it goes quiet.
  • Spectrogram: see hum, clicks and lossy cutoffs on a log-frequency scale.
  • Loudness & quality report: LUFS, true peak, LRA, clipping, phase and a fake-lossless check, exportable as JSON or PDF.
  • A/B preview: compare original and edited, loudness-matched.

Supported formats

WAVR opens MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, M4A, AAC, OPUS, WEBM and AIFF files and can export any of them to these six formats:

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to convert audio online with WAVR?

Yes. WAVR converts files inside your browser, so your audio never leaves your device. The only thing sent anywhere is an anonymous count of conversions (format, file size and length), never the audio or its file name.

Can I convert audio without uploading it?

That is how WAVR works. Your browser decodes the file, applies your settings and encodes the new file on your own computer or phone. There is no upload step and no waiting for a server.

Is there a file size limit?

WAVR sets no file-size limit. Very large files are limited only by your device's memory, because each track is decoded in full before it is converted.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes, in current mobile browsers. MP3, WAV, AIFF and FLAC export work everywhere WAVR runs. M4A and OGG export use your browser's built-in encoders; if your browser doesn't have one, that button is greyed out.

Does WAVR work offline?

Converting doesn't need the internet once the page has loaded, because everything happens on your device. WAVR isn't an installable offline app yet, so you need a connection to open the page.

Is WAVR really free?

Yes. There are no accounts, watermarks or limits. WAVR is supported by optional tips.

Which MP3 bitrate should I choose?

Use 320k for DJ sets and anything you'll play loud, 192k for everyday listening, and 128k for speech, podcasts and voice notes.

Will converting reduce quality?

Converting to WAV, AIFF or FLAC keeps every bit of the source. Converting to MP3, M4A or OGG removes some detail to make the file smaller. Converting a lossy file such as an MP3 to WAV or FLAC can't bring back what was already removed.
