Convert WAV to MP3 —
privately, in your browser.

Shrink big WAV bounces into MP3s you can share, stream or load into a DJ library. Your files never leave this tab.

From studio file to shareable track

WAV is what your DAW, recorder or sampler writes: uncompressed and exact, but around 10 MB for every minute of stereo audio. That's great while you're working and awkward when you want to email a demo, upload to a podcast host or fit a set onto a USB stick. MP3 cuts that to a quarter or less.

WAVR does the conversion on your own device. It reads the WAV, resamples it if needed (MP3 only allows 32, 44.1 and 48 kHz), and encodes a constant-bitrate MP3. Tags from the source file carry over where they exist.

How to convert WAV to MP3

  1. Add your WAV filesDrag files or a whole folder onto WAVR, or click Browse files.
  2. Choose a bitrateMP3 is already selected at 320k. Change it if you want smaller files.
  3. Convert and downloadClick Convert all, then download each MP3 or use Download all.

Which bitrate to pick

  • 320k: club play, DJ libraries and anything mastered loud. The best quality MP3 allows.
  • 256k / 192k: everyday listening, demos for collaborators, and uploads where size matters a little.
  • 128k: speech, podcasts, lectures and voice notes. Music starts to lose sparkle at this rate.

Turn on Normalize to bring quiet recordings up to a consistent peak level, and Trim silence to cut dead air from the start and end of a take.

WAV to MP3 questions

Will my MP3 sound worse than the WAV?

At 320 kbps most people can't tell an MP3 from the WAV it came from. Lower bitrates remove more detail, which is most noticeable on cymbals, reverb tails and quiet passages.

Can I convert a 24-bit or 96 kHz WAV to MP3?

Yes. MP3 only supports 32, 44.1 and 48 kHz, so WAVR resamples high-rate files to the nearest of those automatically before encoding.

How much smaller will the MP3 be?

A 16-bit, 44.1 kHz stereo WAV uses about 10 MB per minute. A 320 kbps MP3 uses about 2.4 MB per minute, and 128 kbps about 1 MB.

Are my WAV files uploaded?

No. The conversion runs inside your browser tab, so the audio never leaves your device.
